This article explains testing requirements for the Georgia Promise Scholarship Program.
What Testing is Required?
Students participating in the Georgia Promise Scholarship Program are required to complete a nationally norm-referenced test before the end of the current school year, in accordance with the Georgia Promise Scholarship Act.
Parents and schools are responsible for ensuring that the selected assessment complies with all program requirements and that results are reported to the Georgia Education Savings Authority (GESA).
Approved Nationally Norm-Referenced Tests
Families and schools must select a test from the GESA-approved nationally norm-referenced test list.
The approved list is published by GESA and includes assessments that compare a student’s academic performance to students nationwide.
Please ensure the selected assessment complies with all provisions of the Georgia Promise Scholarship Program before scheduling testing.
Reporting Test Results
Parents or schools must report testing results to GESA in accordance with program regulations.
Additional instructions regarding test reporting and submission timelines will be shared near the end of the current school year once reporting becomes available.
Statewide Assessments
If a student is eligible for statewide testing through their local public school system, families may contact the local district directly for additional information regarding participation requirements and availability.
Homeschool or Non-Participating Private School Requirements
Students participating in home-based learning or attending a non-participating private school are still required to complete an approved nationally norm-referenced assessment and comply with all reporting requirements.
Are there any Exceptions?
Unless a student has an Individualized Education Program (IEP) or official documentation explicitly exempting them from testing requirements, students are expected to complete the required assessment.
Additional documentation submitted by a district or school may be reviewed for consideration on a case-by-case basis.
