Understanding Transportation Reimbursements for the GA Promise Scholarship Program
The GA Promise Scholarship Program is dedicated to helping families access quality education by easing certain transportation costs. Please note, the only reimbursements the Georgia Promise Scholarship permits are transportation reimbursements. To ensure you get the most from this benefit, here’s what you need to know about eligible transportation reimbursements.
Annual Reimbursement Limit
Families can be reimbursed for up to $500 per year for eligible transportation costs.
- If your total transportation expenses exceed $500, you may still submit receipts, but the reimbursement cannot go beyond the $500 annual limit.
- If a single receipt is over $500, you may only claim the portion that fits within the limit.
Eligible Transportation Services:
- Ride-share apps (such as Uber or Lyft)
- Other transportation services (for example, the MARTA or similar providers)
Not eligible for reimbursement:
- Gasoline receipts or mileage costs
- Handwritten receipts
- Any transportation expense that isn’t clearly a public transportation or ride-share service
Receipt Requirements
To process your reimbursement request, each receipt must:
- Be issued by the transportation service provider (not handwritten)
- Clearly display:
- The service provider’s name
- The date of service
- The amount charged
- Please ensure the amount input matches the exact amount on the receipt.
- Show that the trip was to or from a participating school/service provider
The transportation reimbursement program is designed to support families by covering transportation costs to and from participating schools or service providers. Staying within the $500 annual cap and submitting proper receipts will ensure your reimbursement is processed quickly and without delays.
